Brazilian Studies Research Cluster
The Latin American Studies academic track at the School of Modern Languages and Cultures is proud to currently have two postgraduate students whose work delves into Brazilian Studies. Their work is a clear contribution to an understanding of Latin America beyond the Spanish-speaking sphere. I currently supervise Mr Henrique Gomes, who is undertaking a PhD in Latin American Studies and Ms Leilei Zhang, who has recently began her MPhil in Latin American Studies. These projects will allow the HKU research community to develop expertise in 20th century Brazilian literature, film, culture and political history. Supervising these projects has also prompted me to learn the Portuguese language so my students and I use primary sources in this language and not in translation.
